Virtual reality "Minecraft" is finally in town after Xbox Wireless Controller affirms support to Samsung Gear VR. It appears that Samsung is getting the best of both worlds because this support is powered by another VR player Oculus.
Xbox confirmed that their priced wireless controllers is compatible with Samsung Gear VR. The console manufacturer said they are committed to expanded ecosystem. Gamers can still play anywhere even if Samsung Gear VR is their preference. The same Xbox announcement confirmed that first flagship to benefit from this alliance is "Minecraft: Gear VR Edition."
At any rate, "Minecraft" in select Android devices will receive an update this October. Meaning, Xbox wireless controllers will communicate with Samsung Gear VR to work with Android "Minecraft," specifically Samsung Android devices.
Since "select Android devices" was mentioned, note that listed as supported devices are limited to Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5, Game Spot enumerated.
Xbox also provides instructions on how to play "Minecraft" VR version. First, an update for controller itself is needed. Then Oculus App will provide the update this month for Samsung Gear VR. After these steps, gamers are ready to play via Bluetooth connectivity.
To recall, there was an alliance in August similar to that of Samsung Gear VR and "Minecraft." Oculus Rift provided free copy through their Oculus Store for gamers who want to experience virtual reality. The requirement for this setup is that gamers should be running "Minecraft: Windows 10" already before they can use Oculus Rift.
Meanwhile Xbox teases the gaming world with possibility of future games for Samsung Gear VR. Apart from "Minecraft" other titles like "End Space," "Herobound," "Omega Agent" and "Spirit Champion" are going to be compatible soon. Xbox also advised to "keep an eye out" and expect releases schedule sooner that anyone expects.
