"Outlander" season 3 is speculated to air later in 2017, as GamenGuide previously suggested. While this comes as a disappointment to most of its fans, Sam Heughan said it's worth the long wait. "Outlander" season 3 promises fans thrilling and exciting storylines, with lots of location changes. This may be the reason why season 3 takes so long to film. In fact, Heughan said that the season finale will wrap up in South Africa around May.

Sam Heughan also dished out intriguing details about the upcoming "Outlander" season 3 in his interview with Elle. He pointed out that season 3 will bring in very strong emotions while season 2 was a lot political in its plot. In fact, Diana Gabaldon said that the second book was a hard book to adapt. But with the third book "Voyager," it should be more exciting. Within the 20-year time frame, so many changes in the characters take place.
Jamie & Claire To Reunite In S3, Steamier Scenes?
One of the most anticipated parts of "Outlander" season 3 is perhaps the reunion of the stars-crossed lovers Jamie and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). This might be one of the things that Sam could be telling about. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore also hinted that Claire and Jamie will reunite but didn't reveal what episode it will happen. He also hinted that "Outlander" season 3 will feature sexier scenes.
