Capcom has only shipped 1 million units of its hack and slash video game, DmC: Devil May Cry on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for the month of January and the game publisher has decided to adjust its sales forecast for the game to 1.2 million from its original prediction of 2 million.
Joystiq spotted the news through Capcom's 3rd quarter report and notes that the figures do not include the PC version of the video game, which was released 10 days after the console version on Jan. 25
However, the sales numbers for the Ninja Theory developed reboot are far lower than the previous entry in the series, Devil May Cry 4, which shipped 2 million units in its first two weeks at retail back in January 2008.
The game has been a subject of controversy for fans of the series since the redesigned protagonist was first revealed. Some gamers were so outraged with the game that they petitioned President Obama and the White House to remove DmC: Devil May Cry from the shelves of retailers.
Despite the negative reaction from fans, the game has been well received from critics. Review aggregating websites GameRankings and Metacritic currently have the Xbox 360 version of the game with a score of 85.62 percent and an 86-out-of-100. The PlayStation 3 version holds a score of 85.58 percent on GameRankings and an 85-out-of-100 on Metacritic. The PC version currently holds the lowest score out of the three with a 83.83 percent and an 84-out-of-100.
Capcom also update the anticipated sales data for its Resident Evil 6 video game, which is now expected to ship 4.8 million. The game was initially projected to reach 7 million in sales by the end of March.
