Sony's Rumored PlayStation 4 Event To Be Livestreamed Over The Internet

Rumor has it that Sony will reveal the PlayStation 3's successor during its previously announced meeting that is to take place on Feb. 20 in New York.

Video game website Gamespot is reporting that Sony's event will be viewable to the public via a livestream broadcast over the Internet. Sony has told the website that more details about live stream would be made available in the coming days.

Gamespot notes that an earlier rumor had suggested that both Microsoft and Sony would reveal their respective next generation consoles at an event similar to Apple's product events. But the iPad, iPod and iPhone maker rarely opens its events to the public.

The PlayStation 4 is expected to abandon the DualShock brand of controllers for have a new one that will feature both a Share button and a PlayStation Vita like touchscreen.

An earlier rumor suggests that the controller will be able to monitor a player's heartbeat. The biometric sections of the controller would be situated within the grips of the controllers, whereas the LCD touchscreen would likely be centered on the device.

These rumors suggest that the new controller will emulate the same user interface philosophies as the PlayStation Vita and that there will be a tighter integration between the two platforms. Perhaps Sony is attempting to also increase the sagging sales of its latest mobile gaming platform.

A built in touchscreen into the PlayStation 4's controller would be a natural way for the company to push the effectiveness and experience of its PlayStation Vita.

What do you think about the upcoming event from Sony? Will you be watching the Livestream? What do you want from the next generation of video game consoles? Do you want a dedicated video game console or hybrid media hub? Let us know what you think in the comment section below...
