"Assassin's Creed" was not launched in the first quarter of this year like what was first announced. The delay created many speculations, especially when Ubisoft could not say when exactly the game is coming out. Likewise, when the February 2016 release date was cancelled, fans thought that it was totally shelved and will never arrive anymore.
Everything was cleared when Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillermot addressed the issue through his recent interview with Gamespot. He explained that due to their desire to turn the game into something much better, the team decided to postpone its release.
"What we saw in the development of the next ‘Assassin's Creed' was that we had an opportunity to take it to another level," Gullermot said. "So we said we'll take all the time it takes to make the experience fantastic."
The CEO added that they saw huge potential in "Assassin's Creed" so they wanted to revolutionize the game for improved gaming experience. He also shared that they are taking their time and the release date is not necessarily in 2017 but rather, it will be out when it is ready.
This statement of Gullermot cleared the rumors that "Assassin's Creed" was put on hold because Ubisoft is planning to launch a revival of the game, which according to speculations, is set in Egypt. The reboot has been said to arrive in 2017.
Finally, since November 2007, Ubisoft already released at least 16 versions of "Assassin's Creed." Most of the games were well-received but in 2014, some loyal fans admitted that their interest in the game have dwindled, especially when "Assassin's Creed: Unity" was launched and they found many bugs.
The declining interest of players over the years is likely another reason why Ubisoft wants to take their time to build the much better, revamped version of "Assassin's Creed." Meanwhile, the movie adaption of the game is coming to theaters on Dec. 21, as announced on Twitter.
