NBC's breakout TV series "This is Us" delivered another solid episode last night following its pilot last week. The show received positive reviews from viewers and critics alike, which is most likely why NBC is ordering more episodes of the Dan Fogelman-created series.
The Hollywood Reporter unveiled that NBC has handed out a full-season order for "This is Us," for a total of 18 episodes for the freshman season. Following the major plot twist in last week's episode, viewers thought that all would be smooth sailing now that the show has established its major characters.
However, the arrival of "Castle" actor Jon Huertas as Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) best friend Miguel was foreboding from the very first time he appeared on screen. While Fogelman promises that he is in no way, shape, or form an antagnist or necessarily a "bad guy" in "This is Us," the showrunner admitted that each of the characters on the show are flawed and had their own fair share of mistakes.
What makes "This is Us" interesting is that it has delivered two twists in just two episodes--cliffhangers that are worthy of season finales, in fact. During the final moments of last night's episode, just when fans and viewers were beginning to "ship" Jack and Rebecca (Mandy Moore), the show delivered another blow--Rebecca ends up with Miguel.
In a span of two episodes, "This is Us" has managed to break the hearts of viewers across the nation twice. The most heart-wrenching part is that Rebecca is still wearing the moon necklace that Jack gave her moments (years?) before she waltzed into Randall's home with Miguel. Does this mean that Jack dies a sudden death? Is Milo Ventimiglia getting the boot?
"They’re in love in the way that people fall in love in movies. It’s soulmate kind of stuff," Fogelman told Entertainment Weekly. "But that’s not to say they can’t separate, or divorce, or die."
With this ominous statement from the showrunnner himself, it won't be surprising if Jack indeed meets an untimely death. Of course, fans are still crossing their fingers for Ventimiglia (and his naked butt) to stay on the show. Meanwhile, check out the preview for next week's episode of "This is Us" below.
