Love it or hate it (it's probably the latter for most), microtransactions are a fact of life for the soon-to-be-here Dead Space 3. After a PlayStation Store update, Sony let gamers know what sort of bang they can get for their buck for Visceral's sci-fi shooter.

There's already been a bit of an outcry from gamers since EA announced this move. Between this and the demo which just felt hollow, I'm a bit doubtful about the game's future. The new, open environment of Tau Volentis works for players to get some distance between them and enemies, but in doing so, takes away some of the claustraphobia of the last two games.
Ah well, maybe the DLC will make up for it.
Whereas Clarke may have never truly been alone in past games, a voice forever echoing in his mask telling Clarke where to go and what to do, this is the first game that lets players game with a friend, with Dead Space 3's drop-in drop-out gameplay. During single play, Dead Space newcomer John Carver will act as a guide to Clarke. But during co-op, the two will work together to fight, heal, and solve puzzles.

Dead Space 3 will be available in the US for Windows PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on Feb. 5, and in Europe Feb. 8.
