The much-awaited "The Dark Tower" TV Series is now in the works as makers of the film with the same title revealed details about the upcoming show. It has been known that when the movie was planned, it would be followed by a television spinoff.
'The Dark Tower' TV Series Production
"The Dark Tower" TV series will tell the back-story of Steven King's book series that is composed of seven multiple genre stories. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, production company MRC and the movie's producer and co-screenwriter Akiva Goldsman revealed their plans for the upcoming TV adaptation. MRC and Sony Pictures collaborated to fund not only the show's pilot episode but the full blown first season with 10 to 13 episodes.
But, the number of episodes of "The Dark Tower" TV Series' still depends on how the story will flow. The two entertainment firms are eyeing to start the production in 2017 and its target release year will be in 2018. In this time, it is also believed that the movie version of the book series will be available on cable and streaming services.
'The Dark Tower' TV Series Can Go Head-To-Head With 'Game Of Thrones'
According to a report by Geek, "The Dark Tower" TV Series is going to adapt the fourth book of Steven King's book series, "The Dark Tower IV: The Wizard and the Glass." It will tell the story of Roland, his training and the first time he met the Man in Black and Thinnys. Idris Elba and Tom Taylor, who are both in the movie version, will be, too, seen on the small screen.
However, "The Dark Tower" TV Series has no distributor yet, but it is expected to get attention if ever its movie adaptation will sell in the theaters. But knowing MRC, it won't wait for a distributor to put "The Dark Tower" TV Series in the works. The publication also noted that the television show has what it takes to go head-to-head with George R.R. Martin's "Game of Thrones." "The Dark Tower" TV Series is expected to be released in 2018.
