Assassin's Creed Creative Director Patrice Désilets Could Return To Ubisoft

Last week, Ubisoft acquired THQ Montreal as well as the publishing rights for the Obsidian developed South Park: The Stick of Truth video game.

Thanks to the acquisitions, it is possible that former Assassin's Creed creative director Patrice Désilets will be returning to the company. Désilets left the company back in 2010 to lead the newly formed THQ Montreal studio.

In a recent interview with the Financial Post, Ubisoft Montreal chief executive Yannis Mallat said what the acquisition means for Ubisoft and he also addressed whether Désilets will return to the company.

"This acquisition means that we are welcoming 170 experienced and talented game makers who will join our creative forces at the Ubisoft family," Mallat told the Financial Post. "This is absolutely great news and we are thrilled to welcome those guys. I think that over the past few years we have said over and over again we have said that our strategy was all about gathering the best talent, giving those guys the freedom and the environment to express what they have to what they want in order to make great games."

He said that the creative forces at THQ Montreal have had a difficult time as of late, but that is going to change now that the studio is part of Ubisoft.

"We have ambitious plans in terms of growth for our Montreal studio and this is a very welcome addition, so it's been a pretty tough couple of weeks and months for the THQ creative forces," Mallat said. "That time is over. We are welcoming those guys and we are looking forward to working with those people to make the best games in the world for our players.

Mallat said he is looking forward to working with Désilets again and that he has known the creative director for a longtime.

"I've known Patrice for a while," he said. "I've known Patrice for 13 years and I know him very well, he's a great talent and I respect him as a creator. We're very happy to look forward to working with him again. As a matter of fact, he's actually in France right now because he's giving a speech at a University. He's coming back tonight and I'm having dinner with him tonight."

Mallat did not outright confirm the creative director's return to the studio, but it appears that the game publisher would welcome him back with open arms. Désilets is believed to be one of the creative forces behind THQ Montreal's new itellectual property called 1666.
