NCAA Football 2014 News: EA Sports Announces The Final Eight Schools For The Cover Vote

EA Sports has announced the final eight colleges for its NCAA Football '14 Cover Vote contest.

Alabama was the top vote getter from the Round of 16 with more than 60,000 total votes, but Michigan and Texas A&M were a very close two and three. According to EA Sports, voting went down to the final minutes to determine the top school.

EA Sport says, that more than 1.7 million votes have been cast so far in the contest.

"College football fans have shown tremendous devotion to their favorite teams, and that passion will only intensify as the stakes get higher with the final goal in sight," EA Sports said.

The vote totals have already been reset, as the cover vote prepares for the vote to cut down the list to the final four schools. Below are the schools advancing into the round of eight:

1. Alabama

2. Texas A&M

3. Michigan

4. Ohio State

5. Oregon

6. Notre Dame

7. Georgia

8. Florida State

EA Sports also announced it would begin revealing the athletes that will be representing their respective schools on Facebook in the coming weeks. The next part of voting will be Athlete-specific voting that will begin on Monday, Feb. 4 with the four semifinalists being revealed two weeks later.

The Cover Vote contest began on Dec. 10 with gamers having the ability to choose from 126 Football Bowl Subdivison schools hailing from 12 NCAA Division I conferences.

Last year, NCAA Football 13 featured a fan vote that allowed college football enthusiasts to choose between Barry Sanders, Marcus Allen, Doug Flutie, Desmond Howard, Charlie Ward, Andre Ware, Eddie George, and Herschel Walker to appear on the cover alongside current NFL rookie sensation Robert Griffin III.

EA Sports is attempting to revive interest in the series with the new contest.The 2013 version of NCAA Football saw a 20 percent decline in first month sales from the same period a year ago. However, NCAA 13 was the second highest selling entry in the series for the PlayStation 3.
