A while back we created a casting call for the "Mass Effect" film adaptation that BioWare officially announced in May 2010. Although the film still doesn't have a release date, we have decided to make a casting call for the film version of "Mass Effect 2."
For those who do not know about the potential film adaptation, the movie will be co-produced and co-finance by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. "The Amazing Spider-Man's" Avi Arad is producing, with BioWare's own Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk and Casey Hudson are serving as executive producers. There has been no word on whether the departure of BioWare co-founders Zeschuk and Muzyka from the game developer will affect the film.
At a San Diego Comic-Con 2011 panel for the film Legendary Pictures stated that the film's plot would be an adaptation of the first game's story, centering on Commander Shepard becoming a Spectre and battling against the Turian Saren Arterius. The writer of "I am Legend," and "The Cell," Mark Protosevich is writing the screenplay.
According to the panel, "the writer is weaving a path through Shepard's decisions that best supports the narrative of the movie and the motivations of its characters." They also announced that the film's Commander Shepard would be male.
So here is our casting call for the film's obvious sequel (there will be a few repeats from our last list):
Commander Shepard: Matthew Fox is known for his role as Charlie Salinger on Party of Five, and for portraying Jack Shephard on the supernatural drama television series Lost and he was also pretty good as a Secret Service agent in the film "Vantage Point." If not Fox, I'd go with James Lafferty of "S. Darko" and "One Tree Hill" fame. Lafferty is a younger and cheaper star for a potential future film franchise. Another possible choice is Sam Worthington, whose sometimes-Australian accent might make sense with all of earth being unified. If the role were cast for FemShep, I would go with Kate Beckinsale.
Miranda Lawson: This one is easy. I say you go with Yvonne Strahovski. She was the voice and model for the character in the second game and she deserves to continue the role.
Jacob Taylor: When I see Jacob I see actor and martial artist Michael Jai White. The "Spawn" actor is the perfect build and has the perfect facial hair for the character, plus his martial arts training gives him an edge for action sequences.
Grunt: The genetically engineered super soldier Krogan, Grunt should be created using a mix of computer-generated graphics and some great creature design. I would like to keep voice actor Steven Blum.
Samara/ Morinth: Famke Janssen has played a dual hero/villain role in the "X-Men" film series and has the maturity to play the role of an Asari Justicar.
Jack: Either Natalie Portman or Keira Knightley should play the notorious biotic criminal. Both actresses have played roles where they have had to be tough and aggressive like the character of Jack. Knightley did an incredible job when she portrayed bounty hunter Domino Harvey in "Domino."
Mordin Solus: Either voice actor from the video games should play the role in the film adaptation with Doug Jones or Andy Serkies providing some motion capture work.
Thane Krios: Once again Doug Jones, an American actor and contortionist, who is best known for his roles as Abe Sapien in "Hellboy" and as the Faun in "Pan's Labyrinth." The guy is just magic at playing role that requires lots of uncomfortable make-up and prosthetics.
The Illusive Man: If the role is not played by Martin Sheen, then I wouldn't mind Christopher W. Cooper, who has starred in plethora of films including "The Bourne Identity," "American Beauty," "Capote," "The Town" and "The Kingdom."
Garrus Vakarian: My opinion has not really change on this one. The only thing I might add is that Doug Jones could possible wear the prosthetics with voice actor Brandon Keener continuing to voice the role. He was perfect as Shepard's best friend and teammate.
Liara T'Soni: *I would like to see Jennifer Lawrence, as Dr. Liara T'Soni in a Mass Effect move. I think she will be a perfect fit as the asari researcher who has spent 50 years of her life studying Prothean technology and culture. Lawrence has already showed movie goers she can deal with the heavy blue makeup like she did in "X-Men: First Class."
Ashley Williams: Jessica Biel should play Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams. She is beautiful, physically fit and she has in the past shown the ability to play military personal with some admirable conviction. I could definitely see her reciting poetry, while carrying a rifle acting sort of like her characters in "The A-Team.' I would also go with Jennifer Garner based on her role in "The Kingdom."
Kaidan Alenko: I would go unknown here. He definitely dies in my version of the movie. I might even combine his character with Richard Jenkins aka Geth plasma cannon fodder.
Joker: Seth Green is Flight Lieutenant Jeff "Joker" Moreau. There can be but one. This is a case where the voice actor nails it and deserves to continue the role. Think Optimus Prime in The "Transformers" film series.
Tali'Zorah nar Rayya: Mila Kunis would be great as Tali. She can speak Russian, can play a role that require her to be naïve and has the ability to grow within the character. Her appearance in "The book of Eli" proved she has the acting chops to pull of a role of this caliber.
Urdnot Wrex: The famed krogan mercenary and bounty hunter, Urdnot Wrex is also one of the last Krogan Battlemasters and should be a completely CGI creation in the film. He should be large, rugged, and brutish. He should be voice by the man who has voiced Wrex since the beginning, Steven Barr.
