The WWE Clash of Champions 2016 pay-per-view has just concluded and with it, history is has been made with both surprising and somewhat foreseen results. As the PPV name implies, multiple championship belts are on the line, with the chances of title changes are all being considered.
After the controversial brand split of both RAW and Smack Down, both labels are apparently trying to outlast each other with the best matches possible. In this case, WWE Clash of Champions 2016 is RAW's turn to show what they can do.
According to Mirror, some of the most intriguing sets were slated along the lines of the said pay-per-view, including the successful defense of The New Day of their WWE World Tag Team Championship against Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Chris Jericho versus Sami Zayn was one non-title match in WWE Clash of Champions 2016 that was worth watching, with the long-running WWE veteran Chris Jericho picking up the win.
The kick off-show for WWE Clash of Champions 2016 was no push over either. Another non-title match, Nia Jax versus Alicia Fox was a simple match to start with, and despite Fox's assertive start, the power of Jax was just quite too strong to go up against, Forbes reported.
Another admirable female match in WWE Clash of Champions 2016 as some arguably say is the RAW Women's Championship--comprised of Bayley, "The Boss" Sasha Banks and the current WWE RAW Women's Champion, Charlotte. The match was said to have many iconic moments of back-and-forth pins, heart-stopping submission moments and finishers flying everywhere, but the superior talent and experience of Charlotte has once again served her well in retaining despite the odds.
The WWE Cruiserweight title delivered as expected, with a grand match between returning WWE veteran Brian Kendrick and the current champion, Fil-Am high-flyer T.J. Perkins. After great moments in the match, Perkins keeps the belt with but may made a rival soon after WWE Clash of Champions 2016.
Not everything in WWE Clash of Champions 2016 was received handsomely by the fans. The last match of the Cesaro versus Sheamus Best of Seven Series ended with a No Contest due to medical discrepancies after the physical mayhem that both athletes caused; raising the question on what the next move could be.
The only title change in the entire WWE Clash of Champions 2016 event was within the Roman Reigns versus Rusev match for the United States Championship. Rusev's wife Lana was sent out after some distractions, with the match flowing normally and Reigns landing a tremendous spear for the 1-2-3.
The main event of WWE Clash of Champions 2016, Seth Rollins against Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship, may have once again ended in controversy. After knocking out the referee accidentally, Rollins had the champ beat until an alleged arrangement by Stephanie McMahon allowed Owens to capitalize and stay as champ with the Pop-up Powerbomb.
Generally, RAW's WWE Clash of Champions 2016 was a success, despite only having one title change. What could be next for the longest running episodic show on television?
