Nintendo Announces New Legend of Zelda Game for Wii U, and HD Remake of Wind Waker

The latest episode of Nintendo Direct came and went, and with it, the announcement that many Nintendo diehards were waiting for. The company confirmed a they're working on a brand new game for one of the company's most beloved franchises, The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U, which will surely help the troubled console gain a few more fans.

Little was said about the new title, only that it would address traditional aspects of the franchise, such as "completing the dungeons in a certain order," with an emphasis on single player gaming. Producer Eiji Aonuma declared it would be a back-to-basics title, but at the same time, will cause players to "rethink the conventions of Zelda."

Unfortunately, that was all Nintendo chose to share about the new title, promising more information would eventually be provided, but not for a while.

To help keep fans held over, there is a HD remake planned for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, the cel shaded GameCube title from 2003. Again, little else was revealed, only that the game would be release sometime this fall.

It was also announced that the Wii U would be getting its own Virtual Console, ala the Wii, allowing players the chance to play some of their long lost favorites from decades ago.

NES games will range from $5 to $6 each, while SNES games will run $8 to $9 each. Something of a disappointment was the news that if you already own the game on Wii, you'll still have to purchase the Wii U version, albeit at a discounted price.

Helping to launch the new Virtual Console launch is the "Wii U Virtual Console Trial Campaign." Beginning today the campaign will offer one game each month at the heavily discounted price of $0.30 and will include the following:

- January:
 Balloon Fight
- February: F-Zero
- March: Punch-Out Featuring Mr. Dream
- April: Kirby's Adventure
- May: Super Metroid
- June: Yoshi
- July: Donkey Kong

We'll be sure to post more as we hear more about the new Legend of Zelda title.
