The 2011-12 NHL season was a bitter sweat season for the New York Rangers, as the team finished in first place in the Eastern Conferencing with the Atlantic Division title, but failing to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Los Angeles Kings went on to win the Stanley Cup and then the league went on a lockout that has left many hockey fans aggravated and grumpy.
But now the NHL lockout is over, EA Sports has announced a new tournament for its virtual hockey video game, NHL 13. The new tournament mode is called the Liberty Cup Tournament that takes place in the game's Hockey Ultimate Team feature.
According to EA, "The New York Rangers are poised to make a Stanley Cup run this year. If you have 6 or more Rangers' players on your HUT roster take part in this tournament and play for a chance at 4000 EA Pucks."
The tournament began on Jan. 15 but will continue on through Jan. 22 through the Ultimate Team main menu, but like the hockey season we are a little late with the news.
Here are the requirements to make sure your virtual hockey team can compete in the tournament.
Team requirements:
- Minimum of 6 New York Rangers Players
- Team Star Rating must not exceed 3.5
- Minimum Team Chemistry of 85
Tournament details:
- Featured Online and Offline
- Offline tournament winner receives 1,500 EA Pucks [Pro Difficulty]
- Online tournament winner receives 4,000 EA Pucks [All Star Difficulty]
For those gamers who are unfamiliar with the feature, Hockey Ultimate Team allows you to create fantasy team in sports world without career lengths or a salary cap.
