The Minnesota Vikings suffered a big blow following the knee surgery that Adrian Peterson will be undergoing, leaving a big vacuum to the running back position. He is expected to be out between 3 to 4 months at the least.
Adrian Peterson will have his torn meniscus repaired despite initial word that the injury was not as serious. Looking out for his future, the 31-year-old player decided to go with the procedure for obvious reasons. However, it does bring up questions about his future with the franchise.
Contract-related issue?
While Adrian Peterson can possibly return this December (at the earliest) there are some things along the way that deserve some focus. One involves his contract where Peterson is owed $17.75 million for 2017 which includes a $6 million roster bonus, NFL.com reported.
The hitch here is that Adrian Peterson will not be getting that money and the injury only worsens the situation. With an uncertain period of return, his future with the Vikings has now become fuzzy.
2015-16 season performance could be leverage
Despite his colorful run, the fact is Adrian Peterson did show up last season and shone for the Vikings. He led the league in rushing which eventually led to him making the first-team All-Pro honor.
That said, Adrian Peterson may have just added a bargaining chip on his end though it may all boil down to how well he returns from surgery. Before the surgery was decided, ESPN reported that he suffered something limited to the cartilage and not ligaments. All that may have changed with the decision to have the procedure.
Ronnie Hillman signed
While his future with the Minnesota Vikings is up for debate, the team has signed up Ronnie Hillman to pick up the slack. Word of Hillman as a possible replacement was mentioned by our sister site, iSports Times.
Moving forward the Vikings will have to find a way to survive without their prized running back. On whether he can make a triumphant return this season is anyone’s guess.
