Netflix's "Skylanders Academy" is scheduled to be aired on October 2016. The animated show is based on the Activision toys-to-life game series and was created by the new Activision Blizzard Studios. "Skylanders Academy" will showcase familiar voices from the game.
GameSpot reported that Eric Rogers -- of "Futurama" fame -- will serve as the showrunner of "Skylanders Academy." Justin Long will voice the dragon Spyro, Jonathan Banks will portray lava beast Eruptor, Norm McDonald takes on troll butler Glumshanks and Ashley Tisdale will voice sylvan warrior Stealth Elf. James Hetfield and Susan Sarandon will also have roles in "Skylanders Academy," although these have not yet been unveiled. Other confirmed voice talents include Daniel Wu, The Diamond Minecart, Parker Posey, Bobcat Goldthwait, Catherine O'Hara, Chris Diamantopoulos and Harland Williams.
The official description of "Skylanders Academy" stated that the series will focus on the heroic adventures of the Skylanders team, composed of a team of heroes with special elemental skills and unique personalities. They will travel the massive universe of Skyland, serving as role models to the next generation of Academy cadets, as well as protecting the realm from enemies. The team will have to set their differences aside to take on the bigger challenge of maintaining balance in the universe. It is still uncertain how the plot will unfold in "Skylanders Academy," but fans should expect several familiar voices and characters.
Entertainment Weekly revealed that according to Netflix, they entered into an agreement in June 2016 to make two seasons with 26 episodes of "Skylanders Academy." The first season of "Skylanders Academy" will begin on October 28, while the second season is set to launch late in 2017. Activision Blizzard Studios is also reportedly working on a "Call of Duty" movie.
In the meantime, "Skylanders Imaginators," the next game in the series, is set to launch in October on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U. The game will also feature a "Crash" version on PlayStation 4, which includes the character Crash Bandicoot and his enemy, Dr. Neo Cortex.
