Blizzard Raises $2.3 Million For Victims Of Superstorm Sandy With Cinder Kitten Pet For World Of Warcraft

In December, Blizzard Entertainment started selling an exclusive $10 Cinder Kitten pet for World of Warcraft with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the American Red Cross's Superstorm Sandy relief efforts.

Blizzard has now raised over $2.3 million for the relief effort. Here is what Blizzard had to say about the generosity of WoW Players:

"Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of World of Warcraft players around the world who purchased the Cinder Kitten pet, we've raised a total of more than $2.3 million USD to support the American Red Cross's ongoing Superstorm Sandy relief efforts.

In December, we announced that for every Cinder Kitten purchased by December 31, 2012, 100% of the adoption fee would be going to assist victims of this disaster -- and the community embraced this fiery feline in droves, helping out a great cause in the process. Thanks again to everyone who helped make a difference."

Here is a brief description of what the Cinder Kitten from Battle Net:

"The Cinder Kitten doesn't just have good looks -- this kitty has claws, and makes a purrfect addition to any Pet Battle team. The Cinder Kitten has Rare-quality stats and is a part of the Elemental family. This not-so-cool cat uses many Beast abilities in addition to Dragonkin and Elemental, and can also Prowl, Leap, and Rend its way to a 3-hit combo against its foes-and look good doing it."

This isn't the first time that Blizzard has created an in game item in order to aid with disaster relief.

Back in May 2011, Blizzard announced that for every Cenarion Hatchling purchased by July 31, 2011, 100 percent of the $10 adoption fee would go to tsunami relief efforts in Japan. Blizzard raised $1.9 million for those affected by tsunami.
