Nikon KeyMission Release Date, News & Update: GoPro Challenged With New Action Cameras

When action cameras are mentioned, there is no denying that GoPro will be the first one that would come to mind. The company has carved a name for itself though that doesn’t mean that other players will not come and try to crowd them in that niche.

Nikon, an established name in the camera industry, may be doing just that with its first three action cameras announced recently and ahead of the Photokina expo in Germany. The three new action cameras are the KeyMission 360, KeyMission 170 and they KeyMission 80, Apple Insider reported.

KeyMission 360 is Tops

Nikon’s KeyMission 360 is the alleged cream of the crop that comes equipped with a 20 MP sensor. It can capture 360-degree footage at 4K resolution with each lens boast of f/2.0 maximum aperture. Being an action camera, the KeyMission 360 is made for rugged use meaning it is water-proof (up to 98 feet), shock-proof and can be used in varying temperatures.

KeyMission 170 takes aim at GoPro

Nikon may be targeting GoPro with the KeyMission 170 with its 17-degree field of view. It comes with an 8.3 MP sensor and can record 4K videos. It is rugged as well and can be used under water for up to 33 feet, meaning folks who want to use it deeper may have to buy external waterproof housing.

KeyMission 80 for the starters

The basic one of the batch is the KeyMission 80 which can cover an 80-degree field of view. It functions more or less like the traditional phone cameras most have right now.

It comes with a 12 MP sensor with f/2.0 lens along with a front-facing 5 MP camera with f/2.2. The only downside is that the KeyMission 80 cannot record 4K videos as its brothers.

For pricing, the KeyMission 80, 170 and 360 can be pre-ordered at $279.95, $399.95 and $499.95 respectively. The cameras are expected to be out this October.
