Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson capped a decisive early drive by throwing an 8-yard touchdown pass to tight end Zach Miller, as the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Atlanta Falcons 27-17 in the Divisional round of the NFC Playoffs.
Wilson went 18-26 for 243 yards with two touchdowns and he ran the ball seven times for 51 yards. He also protected the ball and never turned it over. Sidney Rice grabbed six receptions for 73 yards and Golden Tate added five grabs for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Marshawn Lynch carried the ball 25 times for 119 yards while averaging 4.7 yards per carry. He also scored on an 8-yard touchdown run late in the second half, when the Seahawks pulled ahead 27-10.
The Falcons offense struggled to see the field as the Seahawks owned the battle for time of possession behind Lynch and Wilson. Seattle held the ball for 41 minutes of the game.
Despite the score Matt Ryan had a solid outing, he was a very accurate 18-of-22 for 307 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.
Atlanta opened the third quarter with an 80-yard scoring drive, highlighted by a deep pass to wide receiver Roddy White for 59-yard to the Seattle 1 yard line, setting up an easy touchdown toss to tight end Tony Gonzalez.
Gonzalez finished with nine catches for 102 yards and two scores for Atlanta, in what was likely the final game of his Hall-of-Fame worthy career.
The Falcons would not score again in till mid-way through the fourth quarter when they were down 27-10.
Running back Michael Turner was held in check for most of the game, but broke one carry for 26 yards and caught a pass for 17 yards to set up another Ryan to Gonzalez touchdown connection.
The Seattle Seahawks move on to the NFC Championship game where the will take on the winner of the Green Bay Packers And San Francisco 49ers Divisional Game for a chance to play in the Super Bowl.
