With both Apple and Microsoft no-showing this year's Consumer Electronic Show, you'd think maybe Sony would be willing to take the opportunity to snag the spotlight away from Nvidia and Valve by, oh, I don't know, maybe offering up just a teensy, tiny bit of info for their next console?
Well, apparently not. Granted, CES isn't as prone to big gaming announcements as, say, E3. It's easy to forget that before it forayed into gaming, Sony made a name for itself in other electronics, something it still does today. This is what Sony President and CEO Kaz Hirai and Sony Electronics President and COO Phil Molyneux where there to discuss during Sony's press conference.
But you can't expect hungry fans not to try their chance at dredging out some kind of information from Sony's head honchos. During a Q&A segment following the press conference, a member of the audience asked the inevitable question, which Hirai deftly dodged Neo style, only saying, "We're very happy with the way that the PlayStation 3 has grown over the years. Obviously a lot of interaction with the PlayStation Vita as well. All of the gaming fans out there, you probably know that we don't talk about future generation technologies until we're ready to launch it in a big way."
Obviously Sony is keeping things well under wraps until they're good and ready. Until the folks at Sony say they're ready, we're all left snacking on a steady diet of unverifiable rumors.
The CES continues all this week, ending Friday, Jan. 11.
