eSports is fast becoming gamers' haven in India as Nvidia organizes a tournament this week. The country is under minimal and unstable eSports class but Nvidia decides to tag along and fully support an "Overwatch" competition.
Nvidia was convinced of eSports growth in India and hopes that pre-tournament hyping for "Overwatch" is lucrative enough to draw gamers from around the world. Another interesting development is about Nvidia's decision to divert from first-person shooting competition "Call of Duty" and "Counter Strike" to another similar genre in "Overwatch." Gamers agree that this is a sign that "Overwatch" is gaining a foothold in eSports industry.
Meanwhile, Nvidia South Asia Marketing HeadVamsi Krishna said that the company is capitalizing on current trend in eSports. There is huge potential in India's market that remains untapped so Nvidia-GeForce cup will serve as vehicle to promote eSports. Further, Krishna added that Nvidia will market the best gaming platform in the competition, VG247 reported.
Nvidia is also confident of "Overwatch" digging excess market from eSports king Blizzard entertainment. "Defense of the Ancient" has been the pinnacle of eSports since conception but "Overwatch" also sports a record for fastest-growing first-person shooter. According to Tech Portal, the title has 15 million players around the globe.
Now for the tournament particulars, there are eight sites chosen to host the "Overwatch" tournament. Prime consideration during the shortlisting of these cafes are GeForce GTX hardware to ensure smooth performance come competition day. Another gaming hardware developer Alienware will provide hardware support so participants are in for premium gaming experience.
There will be 7 matches scattered within a total of seven-day competition. "Overwatch" junkies will compete for qualifying matches from Sept 23 to Oct 01 for the first leg. Then the semifinals will commence in Oct 06 until Oct 07. The ultimate match is going to be on Oct 8 where winner of match 5 will clash against winner of match 6.
