The rumor mill continues to churn out scuttlebut and gorilla dust for Microsoft's next console, that no one outside the company higher ups can either confirm or deny, leaving us all wondering and trying to make our best educated guesses.
The source of the latest rumor concerns itself with the inner workings of the fabled next-gen console, and come courtesy of a self acclaimed ex-Ubisoft employee who goes by the simple moniker of "BD," a regular poster at the Chinese forum TGFC.
If what BD says is true, then the Xbox 720 boasts some impressive hardware, including an eight core CPU, 8800 series GPU, 8 GB of memory, a 640 GB hard drive, and uses Windows 8 as a system kernel.
Sounds good? Sure. Accurate? Who can say? While it's likely that staff at Ubisoft and other developers could theoretically have some kind of knowledge of Sony and Microsoft's new consoles, don't count on any of them to step forward and admit the knowledge, else they can expect all types of legal blowback from the massive companies. Likewise for Microsoft, as both they and Sony have remained spectacularly quiet regarding development.
Rumors for Microsoft's new console so far have run the gammut, including everything from augmented reality glasses, a new version of Kinect, to upgradable parts, and blu-ray technology.
Whatever the new consoles are using to run, and what kind of tech they'll feature, we'll all find out whenever either company decides to finally break their silence and formally announce their specific consoles, whether it's at their own promotional show, or E3, as most seem to expect.
