Hideo Kojima, series creator of "Metal Gear Solid," is apparently not very proud of "Metal Gear Survive." He recently commented on the new Konami title, and wants to be dissociated from "Metal Gera Survive" as much as possible.
IGN noted that Kojima exited Konami in 2015 and was obviously displeased with how "Metal Gear Survive" deviated from its original design. He stated that the new game has nothing to do with him and questioned the introduction of zombies in the story. Kojima mentioned that the "Metal Gear Solid" games focus on political fiction and espionage, which means that zombies has supposedly no place in the series. Yoji Shinkawa, who was with Kojima at Tokyo Game Show 2016, stated that if he were assigned to work on "Metal Gear Survive," he would have featured mechs instead of zombies.
GameSpot reported that "Metal Gear Survive" was announced in August at Gamescom 2016. The multiplayer stealth title will arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2017. "Metal Gear Survive" is a spinoff of "Metal Gear Solid V," with the same settings and happening just after the events of "Ground Zeroes." According to the game description, "Metal Gear Survive" features Militaires Sans Frontiers soldiers who were pulled into wormholes after the Mother Base was attacked. The soldiers were taken to alternate timelines and forced to fight zombies to survive.
After Konami announced "Metal Gear Survive" and revealed that players will be dealing with zombies, the news garnered mixed reactions from players. Others were optimistic that the upcoming title will feature a rich storyline and engaging game mechanics, while others did not like the idea of adding zombies to the espionage classic.
At least Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa did not approve of the new direction that "Metal Gear Survive" was taking. Yoji used to be the character and mechanical designer on the "Metal Gear" series. The two men are now working at Kojima Productions, focusing on a new project called "Death Stranding." "Metal Gear Survive" will release in 2017 at a rumored price tag of around $30. More updates and details are expected soon.
