MVP contender Adrian Peterson watched helplessly as the Green Bay Packers marched down the field and scored the game-winning field goal with time expiring as the NFC playoffs got off to an exciting start.
The Minnesota Vikings were rolling over the Green Bay Packers 24-17 with Peterson in the driver's seat, when a fumble occurred late in the game on the quarterback-running back exchange.
The ball was quickly scooped up by Packers' defensive tackle B.J. Raji on the Minnesota 25 yard line and the Packers converted the miscue into seven points on a Ryan Grant touchdown run.
With the game now tied, the Vikings drove to the Green Bay 24 with 1:44 left, but second year quarterback Christian Ponder threw an incomplete pass on third-and-three. Instead Minnesota had to settle for a field goal attempt by Blair Walsh, but the kick was tipped at the line and sailed wide right.
Ponder went 17 for 28 for 174 yards while Peterson added 202 yards on the ground with three touchdowns. This was the second time this season Peterson has rushed for 200-plus yards against the Packers defense.
Aaron Rodgers led the Packers down the field to set up the gaming field goal to give the Packers a 27-24 victory as they advance to the divisional round of the NFC playoffs.
Rodgers was 5-for-5 on the drive completing passes of 16, 20 and 15, before the Packers lined up for the game winning kick.
Rodgers completed 22 of 32 throws for 296 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Green Bay tight end Jermichael Finley caught eight passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Greg Jennings added 72 yards on four receptions and one touchdown.
