Developer Remedy, the creator of Alan Wake and Max Payne, is teasing a new announcement for 2013. According to a post on the Alan Wake's official Facebook page, that read "Even greater Remedy news to come in 2013."
The Alan Wake series is a third-person shooter and psychological horror video game about a novelist, who is trying to uncover the mystery behind his wife's disappearance during a vacation in the small fictional town of Bright Falls, Washington.
The original Alan Wake release for Xbox 360 in May 2010 and came to PC in February 2012. a standalone Xbox Live Arcade adventure called Alan Wake's American Nightmare was released on Xbox Live in February 2012 and PC in May.
The game is structured like a mystery television series, with episodes that contain plot twists and Hitchcockian themes. The first game consisted of six episodes and two special episodes, titled "The Signal" and "The Writer," that were available digitally via downloadable content.
Last summer Remedy renewed the registration of the Alan Wake 2 website domain adding to the speculation that the sequel was forthcoming. Lead writer Sam Lake took to Twitter later in 2012 and said, "It's all true. 'It will happen again, in another town, a town called Ordinary.' It's happening now."
The original game has sold over two million copies and in a March 2012 interview with CVG, The studio's head of franchise development, Oskari Häkkinen said that the game had become a cult-classic.
"We've moved over two million copies - that's including PC," Häkkinen told CVG. "So after a slow start it's turning into something really positive. It's definitely had legs. I think narrative experiences just have a tendency for that. Alan Wake's like a cult classic if you like... People who have played and enjoyed the story feel the urge to tell their friends and other gamers out there that they need to try this experience, they need to play it."
When he was asked about a potential sequel he responded: "Yeah, I think so. Alan Wake is definitely very close to our hearts. It's our IP - we own it. It's not something that we're going to forget very easily."
