It is confirmed that "Jurassic World" is a trilogy. The film is only the first of three in which two movies are coming in until 2018.
According to YAHOO Lifestyle, Director Antonio Bayona is confirmed to direct the two installments. He takes over the duties from director Colin Trevorrow in directing the "Jurassic World" trilogy. In fact Bayona shared in a report that Jurassic World is envisioned by Colin Trevorrow to be a trilogy. He confirmed that the second chapter is currently written which is interesting as to where the story leads to.
It has already been confirmed that the second installment titled Jurassic World 2 will start to film next year. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas are coming back to be the major characters. The third installment has recently been confirmed which will tie up the film to make it a trilogy.
In a report from INDEPENDENT, "Jurassic World 2" is going to stay true to Steven Speilberg's Jurassic Park legacy. The sequel from Bayona is expected to be darker especially that he is known for his gothic TV series like 'Penny Dreadful.' He also is known for horror films, 'The Orphanage' and 'A Monster Calls.'
Trevorrow has noted that Claire (Bryce Dallas) is the character that will mostly evolve in the trilogy. "Jurassic World 2" is inspired by a quote from Jurassic Park's character Dr. Alan Grant.
There are rumors that Neil is returning for "Jurassic World 2" together with Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum. However this is yet to be confirmed.
"Jurassic World" which is technically the fourth installment of the "Jurassic Park" series by Steven Speilberg had been a hit last year. It made USD1.6 billion worldwide which made it the fourth highest grossing film of all time.
"Jurassic World 2" is expected to air on June 22, 2018 in North America. There is no word as of yet as to when the third installment of "Jurassic World" will air.
