ApertureVFX Makes Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 a Reality

Well, almost a reality. Personally, the idea of Cold War with China while drones controlled by a mad man invade and ravage Los Angeles sounds a bit, well...sucky. Also, I assume the production budget to re-enact it would be insane. In any case, ApertureVFX seemed to agree, and focused their video on the Black Ops 2's multiplayer aspect, and with impressive results. It's not a UAV, or a tank piloted by a video game controller, but check it out below!

Looks like Steve could've used some advice from Black Ops 2's design director David Vonderhaar.

The crew has also brought their own touches to DC comic heroes Batman and Green Lantern. Yes, it's better than the Ryan Reynolds version. Low bar, but still.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 sees players assume the role of the first Black Ops protagonist, Alex Mason's son, David. The game is set in war-torn Los Angeles in the year 2025, and the People's Republic of China has invaded Los Angeles due to a global struggle involving rare earth minerals. At the same time, a terrorist by the name of Raul Menendez manages to infiltrate the miltary network to take over hundreds of the U.S's own automated drones, using them to attack its major cities. Sounds a bit far fetched, but it's really not.

Players will take a trip back in time where they'll meet a younger version of Menendez, and see how events of the past shaped him into the man he becomes.

Goyer said of Menendez, "Menendez is a multidimensional human being. That was the first place we wanted to start. We wanted players to understand the emotional conflict at the core of Menendez's actions, so we have players meet Raul Menendez as Alex Mason in the late 80's."

About one third of the game will be played as Alex Mason, seeing and understanding how this monster was created, to see what the monster is capable of.

Players will be able to make choices throughout the game that will affect the story, including a variety of endings.

Since its release, Black Ops 2 has managed to gross over $1 billion, which is just another milestone for the shooter. Shortly after the game's launch, it was revealed that Black Ops 2 managed to set records as Amazon's most pre-ordered game ever. It also managed to hit a sell-through of over $500 million worldwide in the first 24 hours of its release, according to Chart-Track, and GameStop president Tony Bartel wrote that the retailer sold more than 1 million units worldwide, decalaring, "'Black Ops II' is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time." It currently stands as one of the most played online games on about every major platform.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is out now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, and the Nintendo's Wii U. Amazon is currently offering the game for $39.99 on all systems.
