Google Nexus 6P Release Date, News & Update: Hacking Prize Revealed; Project Fi Brings Data-Saving Feature to Nexus Smartphones! Specs, Features Revealed

Google is giving hackers an amazing opportunity with its Google Nexus 6P and 5X devices. It is launching the "Project Zero Security Contest" where hackers will be asked to hack the Nexus 6P and 5X devices with just the devices' email address and phone number. Google has kept over $300,000 as prizes.

The winner will get a whopping $200,000 while the runner-up will receive a $100,000. Google has kept an additional $50,000 for additional winning entries. The contestants will be required to find out vulnerabilities in Google Nexus 6P and 5X that can be remotely exploited via sending an email or a text message. The winning hackers will be required to explain the bugs in a short technical report that will be published in the Project Zero blog.

Meanwhile, the data-saving feature that is exclusive to Google's Fi Network will be brought to Nexus 6P and other Nexus devices. It is applicable for all devices not yet on Fi Network, Google's Wi-Fi Assistant.

Thus, Google Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X will get the feature similar to Windows 10's Wi-Fi Sense. The feature will allow the devices to save cellular data by using Wi-Fi Assistant. The feature enables devices to automatically scan for Wi-Fi hotspots and then connect the users to the best option available, writes International Business Times.

The Wi-Fi Assistant feature is only available to Nexus phones such as Google Nexus 6P that run on Android 5.1 Lollipop and above. Google Nexus 4 is also included in the update. Users may not worry about privacy and security as Project Fi uses a VPN and Google does not record or view content sent over VPN.

Google Nexus 6P users can now save data pack and enjoy Internet connection using the free Wi-Fi spots. In order to activate the feature, Nexus users need to go to their Wi-Fi Settings and turn on the "Use open Wi-Fi automatically" option, writes iTech Post.
