Square-Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics upcoming reboot of the action-adventure platform Tomb Raider series might feature a multiplayer mode, according to a new listing from UK retailer Game.
The retail listing suggests that the game will have team-based multiplayer with gamers taking on the role of either Lara Croft's shipmates or as the Yamatai scavengers.
The listing was discovered by All Games Beta and reported by Digital Trends. The key features listed in the advertisement said, "Survive as a team: Play a variety of multiplayer modes as Lara's Shipmates or Yamatai's Scavengers." The listing has since been removed from the retailer's website.
Crystal Dynamics has yet to deny or confirm if the game will feature a multiplayer mode. But as we get closer to Tomb Raider's release date, the developer will definitely reveal more details about Lara's new adventure.
In the article, Digital Trends points out that this isn't Lara Croft's first foray into the realm of multiplayer, as the downloadable title, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light featured a multiplayer component. But that was more of a cooperative experience featuring an emphasis on teamwork.
The Tomb Raider reboot will reconstructed the origins of lead character Lara Croft and will not be connected to previous games in the franchise. The game's plot sees Croft shipwrecked and stranded on an isolated tropical island in the Dragon's Triangle.
The young Lara is then forced to find food and water to survive, as she fights off dangerous animals and tries to locate the other survivors. She soon discovers that malevolent mercenaries who seek to kill her and her companions inhabit the island.
British actress Camilla Luddington is the voice of the young Lara Croft and has provided motion capture work for the character as well. Rhianna Pratchett wrote the game's story.
