It's been over three years since fans last saw Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim," but the long wait will soon be over as its sequel, "Pacific Rim 2," is hitting theaters next year. However, it appears that fan-favorite Charlie Hunnam will not be returning to the sequel, also titled "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom."
The "Sons of Anarchy" actor already made it clear that he won't return to reprise his role as Raleigh Becket in "Pacific Rim 2," citing conflicts in the schedule as the main reason. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, producer del Toro also hinted that some of the cast members from the original movie will be returning, but there isn't a final list of it yet.
At this point, there's no official announcement as to who will land a major role in "Pacific Rim 2," but the sequel's new director, Stephen DeKnight may have dropped a hint. It won't be easy though as fans will need to guess from a list of actors. DeKnight took to Twitter to tease that a new actor will be on board to play an important role in "Maelstrom."
This week, "Guardians of the Galaxy" producer James Gunn posted a review about the new movie "The Belko Experiment," directed by "Wolf Creek's" Greg McLean. Released at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend, DeKnight responded to the tweet saying that one of the cast members of "The Belko Experiment" will be part of "Pacific Rim 2." The former film stars John Gallagher, Jr., Tony Goldwyn, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Adria Arjona, Melonie Diaz, John C. McGinley and Josh Brener. Anyone of these strong actors will star in "Maelstrom."
"Pacific Rim 2" is still in the early stages of production and fans have yet to know who among the actors from the first movie will make a comeback. At the same time, the new faces are also something to look forward to in this movie. More updates should be dropped in the coming months and fans should just stay tuned.
