Getting excited for Dead Space 3? Join the club.
In the event that you may be unaware of the events leading up to the latest installment for this franchise, no worries. Visceral and EA threw together a video so you can get caught up. Watch the clip below!
And there you have it.
That backwater ice ball the narrator mentioned? That would be Tau Volantis. It's where Isaac will cross paths with John Carver, enabling a first for the series, two player co-op. The new mode allows for drop-in, drop-out playability, so your gameplay will be easy to begin or finish, with or without a buddy. Players that choose to take down the terror together will experience additional story details, side missions and gameplay mechanics only found when playing as John Carver. You can watch a trailer showing off the new co-op mode here.
In addition to necromorphs new and old, Clarke and Carver will take down human enemies, both from EarthGov, and Dead Space's interpretation of Scientology, Unitology. It's been a criticized move since it was announced, but it will add ranged combat to the game, offering a change of pace from gameplay of the last two titles.
Visceral Games recently announced that the Xbox 360 version will feature Kinect voice controls that should "make it easier for co-op partners to give each other health or ammo, find objectives, revive one another and more." They also made a blog post about how dementia will affect Clarke and newcomer John Carver, sometimes even sharing hallucinations.
Special weapons have been announced depending on where you pre-order your game from, and EA has also announced a Limited Edition of Dead Space 3, which offers two bonus suits, as well as two bonus weapons, different than those announced for pre-orders.
Dead Space 3 will be available in the States for Windows PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on Feb. 5, and in Europe Feb. 8.
