It looks like the Wii U is a bit xenophobic, and I can't say I blame them. Speared tails, spit acid, those things are terrifying. Oh, wait, wrong context.
In the off chance that you have some relatives coming in from the old country, who also happen to have packed their own Wii U controllers, they're not completely S.O.L.
Nintendo went ahead and ensured that overseas Wii U GamePads are unable to complete system updates. As for why this is, Nintendo hasn't said, but thankfully it's not the biggest hurdle to hit the Wii U.
Thankfully, you can still use the foreign controller to get your game on, just keep the original handy.
There are two different versions of the Wii U available for purchase; a basic, white edition, boasting 8GB of storage, including the console itself, gamepad, HDMI cable, and sensor bar. It comes in at $299.99. The second is a premium edition, in black, with 32GB of storage. It comes with everything the basic edition has, as well as a stand for the gamepad, console, and a copy of Nintendo Land. It will cost $349.99.
Just watch out for that system update. Below is a list of just some of the games currently offered for the console.
