For most Star Wars fans an opportunity to direct the next installment of the sci-fi film franchise would be a dream come true. Self-proclaimed "Star Wars" fan, director J.J. Abrams recently turned down the opportunity, because he didn't want to ruin his own movie going experience.
In a recent interview with Empire reported via IGN, Abrams said that he turned down the directing job because of his loyalty to the "Star Trek" film franchise and because he rather be in the audience for future "Star Wars" films.
"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to "Star Trek", and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things," Abrams told Empire.
Abrams added, "I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."
According to the interview, the director also revealed that he is contracted for three more films in the "Star Trek" series. The latest movie in the Trek franchise, "Star Trek into Darkness," releases in theaters on May 17, 2013.
"Star Wars: Episode VII" is expected to release during the summer of 2015.
