Irrational Games hosted a contest for fans to decide the reversible cover for Bioshock Infinite. The image selected was design number four with 38 percent of the fan votes. The mostly red and off-white cover art features a mechanical Songbird and the floating city of Columbia Here is the cover art:
The official box art for BioShock Infinite features the main character Booker Dewitt standing a very Nathan Drake-esque pose with a modified-shotgun slung across his shoulder as an American flag burns in the background.
Fans were not too pleased with the official cover art and took to comment boards and forums to voice their opinions. Many fans considered the cover art to be fairly average and generic. Creative director Ken Levine explained that the cover was created to draw in average gamers who know very little about the franchise.
BioShock Infinite is set in 1912, players play as former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt as he is sent on a rescue mission to the flying city of Columbia. He must find a young woman named Elizabeth. She has been imprisoned in the floating city since childhood. The two form a bond while trying to escape the city and Booker is able to augment his own abilities with Elizabeth's "world-altering control over the environment."
The Songbird featured on the reversible cover is Elizabeth's jailer. According to the game's official page, "Songbird is the creature that serves as Elizabeth's jailer, protector and only companion. Once Booker frees Elizabeth, Songbird will do anything and everything to return Elizabeth to her prison."
BioShock: infinite will release on March 26, 2013 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms. You can learn more about the game here and watch the game's official trailer below...
