Without warning, Amazon seems to have spilled the beans on when we can all get our hands on what will no doubt be a game of the year contender, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V.
The company sent out e-mails to pre-order customers informing them that the game's new release date was March 26th, 2013. This is also reflected in Amazon's listing for the game as well.
Keep in mind, this date comes ahead of any notice from Rockstar, and Amazon has a history of guestimating release dates. The company's French arm had previously listed GTA V's release date as June 19,, a date which was never confrimed (or denied) by Rockstar.
Some have looked back at previous GTA release dates to give plausability to this new release date. For example, GTA IV was released in April, roughly the same release window Amazon is advertising. Similarly, March 26 falls on a Tuesday next year, and new games are typically released on Tuesdays.
However, it's best to wait for a confirmation from Rockstar before you make any plans. They recently released some new screenshots, but have been mum on an official release date.
Featuring three playable characters, a first for the series, Grand Theft Auto V takes place in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California in the largest and most thriving game-world we have ever created set in the sprawling city of Los Santos and for miles beyond - from the tops of the mountains to the depths of the ocean.
Not much is known about the story, but Rockstar has confirmed there will be multiple endings, and the story will be about the same length as Red Dead Redemption, at about 25 - 30 hours. Keep in mind, that's before the massive amount of secondary things to do, so this should be a monster of a game.
Until they say otherwise, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V will release worldwide in the Spring of 2013 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC release hasn't been announced, though a petition is making the rounds on the internet to have the title brought to the platform. Likewise, there's similarly been no word on a release for the Wii U.
Rockstar is offering a free t-shirt for anyone who pre-orders the game from the Rockstar Warehouse.
