Gears of War: Judgement Release Date: Epic Games Writers Talk About The Game's Humor

Gears of War: Judgment, the upcoming third-person shooter from Epic Games and People Can Fly will attempt to lighten the darker tone of previous games in the franchise.

In a recent interview with Shack News, Epic Games writers discussed how Lt. Damon Baird's humor and interaction with his squad would lighten the mood from some of the game's darker sections.

"There are some truly dark moments, as there should be in a game about monsters exploding," Epic Games writer Rob Auten told Shacknews. "But ultimately we did try to go for a tone that was fun, and you want to hang out with these characters in the sense that they're fun to listen to interact with each other. All my favorite moments of Gears are the ones that had a little bit of lightness to the horror."

Writer Tom Bissell added that the characters' interactions would poke fun at the absurdity of the situation.

"They're getting to know each other, they poke at each other," said Bissell. "And they're in a totally absurd situation, and there's a sort of comedy in that absurd situation. It's Gears of War, it's fun, you're not playing this game to experience guilt and remorse."

According to the article, the introduction of new characters open up the game's narrative for these natural moments of ribbing between the squad mates.

"These guys are nascent soldiers, so you drop in more experienced soldiers from either side of the Serran conflict, all of a sudden you have this equation for questions and doubt and factionalism and ribbing," He added.

Gears of War: Judgment releases on March 19 2013 exclusively for Microsoft's Xbox 360. Fans who pre-order Gears of War: Judgment at participating retailers will receive a multiplayer weapon at launch, the six shot Hammerburst.
