The second season of "Narcos" recently concluded and the Netflix series stayed true to history, with Wagner Moura's Pablo Escobar killed at the end of the finale. With Moura ending his portrayal of the notorious drug kingpin, what's next for "Narcos" Season 3?
Fortunately, the story will continue as there will be two more seasons of the Netflix series. Prior to this confirmation, many people are wondering how the series would continue on without Escobar. But, as showrunner Eric Newman had explained, "Narcos" is supposed to be a story about drugs and not just one person or organization. "From the beginning when we decided to call the showNarcos and not Pablo Escobar, I had always had in mind to tell the continuing story of cocaine," Newman told The Hollywood Reporter. What could happen in "Narcos" Season 3?
Although Escobar will no longer be in "Narcos" Season 3 and Season 4, his exit paved way to the beginning of his successors - the Cali cartel. Since the series is based on history, most of what's going to happen in the future seasons won't be much of a surprise. Newman already revealed that the four Cali godfathers, Miguel (Francisco Denis), Gilberto (Damian Alcazar) and Pacho Herrera (Alberto Ammann), who already made an appearance in Season 2, and the fourth called "Chepe" will be part of the next season.
Meanwhile, an announcement video (shown below) for "Narcos" Season 3 and Season 4 has already been released and somehow fans thought that Gilberto will replace Escobar. However, Newman said in the interview that Escobar will not be replaced, but Gilberto will definitely play an important role.
"Narcos" Season 3 will most likely open scenes featuring a new mission to go after Cali cartel, THR mentioned in its report. It is also expected that the series will bring a slight time jump establishing the identities of the new characters. The new "Narcos" Season 3 is expected to arrive sometime in 2017, with an exact premiere date still waiting to be announced.
