Bethesda and Id Software announced The Scorchers DLC for post-apocalyptic first-person shooter Rage. The expansion will cost $4.99 on PlayStation Network and Windows PC or 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live.
Here is Bethesda's official statement about the upcoming add-on:
"In this brand-new adventure spanning six all-new areas, you will fight alongside new allies to defend the Hager Settlment from a maniacal bandit clan known as The Scorchers. Along the way, you'll participate in a new season of Mutant Bash TV, encounter new mini-games, and wield the overpowering and brutal Nailgun.
In addition to the new content, this DLC includes 'Ultra-Nightmare', a new high difficulty mode, as well as an 'Extended Play' option that allows you to play past the original ending of the game - giving you the opportunity to finish collecting items and achievements."
Rage was originally a tech-demo used to showcase Id Software's new engine in 2007 at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. The game takes place in the year 2029 and features an earth that is in shambles after an asteroid strikes the planet.
The remaining human survivors of the impact have formed sanctuaries at habitable locations around world. The havens are far from safe and are often attacked by bandits and mutants, which are divided into various gangs and organizations of their own.
The game's main protagonist is the "Ark Survivor" a human being who emerges after 106 years inside an underground shelter. The Ark Survivor was part of the Eden Project, a massive international program that was developed to rebuild civilization in the future.
Rage was released in October 2011 for the PlayStation 3, Windows PC , Mac OSX and Xbox 360.
On aggregate review site Metacritic, Rage has received mostly positive reviews and currently holds an 81-out-of-100 rating on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The PC version is rated a 79-out-of-100 rating based on 32 reviews.
