Unreal Engine 4 is called into action for fan remake of "Crash Bandicoot," tempting the question if Sony Entertainment will follow Nintendo's footstep to issue DMCA to wannabes. "Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped" hits the stage with a remake title "Crash Bandicoot: Time Twister."
To recall, Sony announced that Crash Bandicoot and sisters "Cortex Strikes Back" and "Warped" will hit the shelves soon. Incidentally, fans can already enjoy the indie version of the third title via "Time Twister."
MobilenApps quoted the developer saying that they started the fan-made from scratch as test to prove what they can do in future projects. The indie developer added that Bandicoot is to be the defining work for furtherance of their careers.
Meanwhile, Crash Mania suspects that Bandicoot developer Vicarious Visions is more likely to remake the series instead of lazy remaster for PlayStation 4. Top reason for a remake instead of remaster is the tool used in coding the original series because no other developer knows how to use them.
It is more logical for Sony and Vicarious Visions to avoid too much complexities and start from scratch through a remake instead. Another reward of a remake is the possibility of adding new contents and features which fans are expecting.
Vicarious Visions portfolio boasts development of hit series "Skylanders" with two episodes; "Swap Force" and "Super Chargers." They also worked on remakes of "Guitar Hero 5" and "Quantum of Solace" which are both almost decade-old. Latter game titles are ported for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.
Now for the new generation, Crash Bandicoot series first appeared in 1998 - two decades ago, yes. Naughty Dog originally created 18 games within the series and sold over 50 million copies. Bandicoot was one of the most prolific title, it invaded platforms from Game Boy Advance to more recent trio Nintendo, PlayStation. Xbox.
