"Divergent" star Shailene Woodley is reportedly not interested with the move to bring the final film franchise to television. The actress allegedly stated that she did not sign up to be in a television show.
Woodley explained that the studio and everyone involved may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, Hollywood Reporter reported. However, out of her respect to them, she is not interested in doing a television show. Additionally, Woodley is reportedly not the only "Divergent" star to opt out from the project if it switches as a TV movie.
The final "Divergent" film "Ascendant" being reimagined as a TV show came as a surprise to Woodley's co-stars as well. Miles Teller already made it known that the news caught them by surprise during an interview with him at the "War Dogs" premiere in New York in August. However, he clarified that he has not talked to anybody about reprising his role as Peter in the movie finale.
Teller also revealed that things change anytime they mess with something that was not the original intention, Just Jared reported. He continued to add that they all signed on for the "Divergent" film in hopes that it will be released in theatres and they all had the intention of finishing the franchise. He also said that there is no single actor who worked in the franchise who had anything bad to say about the experience as it is all good and he has nothing but love for everyone he worked with.
"Divergent" series fourth and final film "Ascendant" was initially slated for a theatrical release on June 9, 2017. However, "Allegiant," the franchise's third installment which starred Woodley, Teller, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts and Jeff Daniels earned only $66 million domestically.
"Divergent" series' Lionsgate reportedly began to rethink its strategy for the upcoming film. Veronica Roth's book series movie adaptation is now purportedly being reconfigured as a TV movie with a potential spinoff series.
