Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed III sold 7 million copies worldwide in one month since its release and has become the fastest-selling game in the company's history.
"The reception for Assassin's Creed 3 has been exceptional, and this success has positioned the game among the best sellers of the 2012 holiday season" said Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA chief marketing & sales officer, Ubisoft. "We knew we had something special on our hands when Assassin's Creed 3 was launched, and we're really excited and proud to see how much fans are enjoying the latest installment in the franchise."
According to Ubisoft, gamers "have accumulated more than 82 centuries of gaming time" in solo missions and "committed more than 3 billion assassinations." Assassin's Creed III also saw an increase in multiplayer sessions where more than twice as many gamers have signed into the multiplayer mode compared to Assassin's Creed Revelations. Gamers have logged more than five billion multiplayer sessions and 250 million assassinations have been performed.
Assassin's Creed III sold 3.5 million units during its first week of release, an increase of "more than 100 percent" compared to Revelations' first week sales.
The game recently received its first expansion via The Hidden Secrets DLC. The new add-on includes three missions, the Lost Mayan Ruins, the Ghost Of War and the Dangerous Secret missions. The expansion also adds the Colonial Assassin and Captain Of The Aquila outfits to the single player campaign.
Ubisoft has already announced three future DLC packs that will revolve around George Washington. The planned DLC is called "The Tyranny of King Washington" and will tell an alternate history where George Washington becomes the tyrant king of America.
Here is the official synopsis for "The Tyranny of King Washington" from Ubisoft's YouTube page:
"Welcome to Assassin's Creed III's Tyranny of King Washington -- a 3-part DLC series exploring an alternate reality in which George Washington goes mad with unlimited power, foregoing Presidency to rule as tyrannical King. Having never become an Assassin, he must endure new trials, acquiring the skills he'll need to take down a possessed Washington and win freedom for his land once and for all."
