X-Men Days Of Future Past Release Date: Ian McKellen Talks About The Possibility Of Magneto Vs Magneto

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" is set to begin filming next month and will see Marvel's favorite mutants in a storyline that alternates between the past, the present and the future.

The time traveling plot device will let the film makers utilize the cast of the original "X-Men Trilogy" and last year's "X-Men: First Class." Many of the mutants from the previous films will be involved in either future or past elements of the plot.

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood reported via Yahoo, the original Magneto, Ian McKellen talked about Michael Fassbender's turn as the younger version of the mutant villain.

According to Yahoo's article, McKellen told the entertainment television show, "I thought he was terrific," when asked about Fassbender's performance in "X-Men: First Class."

McKellan was also asked if the original Magneto and Professor X would meet up with the younger versions of their characters played by James McAvoy and Fassbender.

"We'll give him a run for his money when we get there,"McKellen told Access Hollywood and he added, "Two Magnetos together? "Who knows!"

According to Marvel's website, "Days of Future Past" is set "in a timeline where the X-Men failed to prevent the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly at the hands of Mystique's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the government reinstitutes the Sentinel program, and it's not long before the killer robots take over the United States, exterminating mutants and superhumans alike. Only a small group of surviving X-Men led by Magneto stand against the Sentinels and hope to alter their fate by changing the past."

The storyline sets up a perfect opportunity for the filmmakers to have both versions of Magneto faceoff in a high-powered battle.  I actually hope the movie takes some cues from "X-Men: the Animated Series" and include future mutant Bishop in the time travelers role.

Hugh Jackman is reportedly in negotiations to return as Wolverine in the film. Jackman will likely play both version of his character due to Wolverine's enhanced physical capabilities including his healing factor that allows him to recover from virtually any wound, disease or toxin, at an accelerated rate.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" will release in theaters during the summer of 2014.
