Texans quarterback Matt Schaub evaded the oncoming linebacker and threw the ball into the endzone to a wide-open Andre Johnson, but the ball bounced of his fingers and into the hands of New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty.
McCourty kneeled in the middle of the endzone with 15 seconds left in the game as the Patriots defeated the AFC-leading Houston Texans 34-28 on ESPN's "Monday Night Football.
The Patriots were leading 31-14 to start the fourth quarter, But Schaub and the Texans outscored New England 14-3 in the final 15 minutes of the game to make set up the possible game winning drive with under two-minutes remaining.
The Texans moved the ball down to the Patriots 18-yard line before Schaub's pass went right threw the hands of Johnson and into the open arms of McCourty.
Schaub completed 21-of-29 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns. Texans' running back Arian Foster went for 129 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Houston receiver Andre Johnson added 89 yard receiving and caught both of Schaub's touchdown passes.
Tom Brady completed 29-of-40 passes for 337 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Tight end Aaron Hernandez grabbed nine catches for 142 yards and a touchdown. Wes Welker added 72 yard on seven receptions.
In the first quarter it looked like this one would be close as both defenses stymied the other team's offensive unit. The Texans open the game with a quick three and out, while the Patriots took the ball into Texans' territory before their drive netted them no points as Stephen Gostkowski's 43-yard field goal attempted went wide right.
But the Texans turned the ball over on Foster fumble that led to three points for the Patriots. New England added two touchdowns and went into the locker room up 17-7.
Texans defensive end J.J. Watt had seven tackles and another sack, giving him 17.5 for the season.
