The next installment in Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise may be set in Brazil, according to a recent report.
In a recent interview with Portuguese site Techtudo that was translated and reported by Gamespot, Ubisoft Brazil managing director Bertrand Chaverot revealed that the next game would be headed to the South American country. There was very little details provided and no mention if the game was taking place in Brazil or whether the country would just be featured in the next game.
Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed III featured a mission set in Brazil and perhaps the interview was referring to this level of the game. Ubisoft hasn't officially announced the next entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise, but questions from a recently leaked survey suggested the next game will be released in 2013 and will possibly feature co-op gameplay.
Gamespot reached out to Ubisoft's North American team for comment, but have yet to receive a statement from the company. Gamespot later updated the story saying, "Following the publication of this story, Techtudo updated its original report. The line that previously stated the "next chapter" in the Assassin's Creed franchise would be set in Brazil now suggests Ubisoft is working on a "web-based history" of Brazil, though nothing has been decided."
Gamer Ranx translated the original interview in Google translator. Here is the translation:
"The development team already has several ideas on how to build a scenario based on a particular moment in the history of Brazil and that fits perfectly in the millennial plot between Templars and Assassins, but so far nothing is decided."
According to Game Ranx, Chaverot made a public apology for what was considered by many as a negative portrayal of Brazil in Assassin's Creed 3. The site also refers to the leaked survey and Game Ranx notes that the questions pointed to the developers continuing Connor's story. Ubisoft had previously mentioned that Connor could be the protagonist for two more game depending on how well he was received by fans of the series. (Read more here)
