FromSoftware announced Dark Souls II via trailer at the tenth annual Spike TV video game awards last night. The trailer featured warriors battling through hordes of beast and a lot of action. The trailer ends when a lone warrior falls to his knees having been pierced by many arrows.
But, the first real details about the game will emerge in the latest issue of Edge Magazine.The magazine's December issue will feature an article with several details about the sequel. According to Edge and reported via CVG, "An eternal battle rages at the heart of Dark Souls II. On one side stands the stern force of challenge, the very soul of the Souls series." Edges Magazine says that the new game will be more accessible in order to reach a wider audience within the gaming community.
Dark Souls II will be the first in the series not to be directed by series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and instead will be in the hands of newcomers Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura. Miyazaki will be supervising the new duo during the project.
According to the article, the new duo's says Dark Souls II will become more approachable because of the game's individual characters.
"I personally am the sort of person who likes to be more direct than subtle," Shibuya told Edge Magazine. "[Dark Souls II] will be more straightforward and more understandable."
CVG reports that in a press release issued after the game's VGA announcement, Namco Bandai stated that Dark Souls II would retain the legacy of its predecessor and said, "Dark Souls II will continue a legacy of goading its passionate fan base with unrelenting challenge and suffering that are considered a hallmark of the series; while presenting new devilishly devised obstacles for players to overcome."
According to CVG, in the press release Shibuya says:
"This new chapter in the Dark Souls saga presents opportunities for us to drive innovation in gameplay design, develop an entirely new story, and expand the scope of the world in which the player interacts with the game. We have taken these necessary steps with Dark Souls II in order to evolve the overall experience of the Dark Souls series.
The entire development team is striving to make Dark Souls II an experience that is fresh while not forsaking its roots in presenting players with challenging gameplay. Our goal is to surprise and delight our fans with new experiences and plot twists while enticing new players to join our dark journey."
Dark Souls II is in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
