Transformers Prime: The Game Nintendo Wii U Review Round Up

Transformers Prime: The Game is a brawler based on the animated television series of the same name. The game features the voice cast from the show such as Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, Sumalee Montano, Steven Blum, Josh Keaton, Jeffrey Combs, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Daran Norris.

Prime is a Nintendo exclusive title and was recently released on Nintendo's new console the Wii U. The game has so far received mixed reviews. Here is our review round-up for the Wii U version of Transformers Prime: The Game:

IGN says, "It's clear that this version was crafted right alongside the earlier editions for Nintendo's less powerful machines, and so it simply looks like the same experience, up scaled." IGN gives the game a 7.8-out-of-10 and recommends Prime for fans of the "Transformers: Prime" cartoon show. According to the review another advantage the Wii U version has is the ability to use the GamePad rather than the Wii Remote + Nunchuck control scheme. The GamePad eliminates the waggle attacks and gives gamers a running stat tracker. Gamers can also play the game away from their television sets by swapping the display to the GamePad.

Game Informer found the game less enjoyable and said, "Fuzzy textures and boring level design doesn't do the mediocre gameplay any favors. On the other hand, character models and the transformation animations look great. A bare bones multiplayer mode lets you and another friend battle one-on-one or against bots. Deathmatch is the only mode worth a glance. Decepticons and other unlockable Autobots are playable in multiplayer, but the flying Transformers handle like misassembled kites." Game Informer rates the game 6.5-out-of-10.

Destructoid rates the game even lower with a score of 4-out-of-10. The reviewer says, "The highest praise one can afford this game is that it's playable. It's not broken, nor is it really that offensive. It's just a condensed exercise in bromidic game design, a brief waste of time squirted out of some mercenary developer's squalid hole. It's not terrible enough to be memorable, not good enough to justify your attention."

Games Radar says, "Young gamers, especially those who enjoy the Transformers Prime cartoon, will find a lot to like in this Wii U adaptation, but everyone else will be put off by its simple gameplay and lack of content. The combat is surprisingly fun, but it's wrapped up in a repetitive campaign that doesn't offer enough variety to sustain most gamers' interest." The reviewer gives the game 3-out-of-5 stars for a rating of decent.

On review aggregating website Metacritic, the game currently holds a score of 60-out-of-100 based on 10 reviews. On Wii the game has a score 63 based on five reviews.
