Another brilliant actor will be joining the cast of "Game of Thrones" Season 7. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" star Jim Broadbent has been confirmed for a mystery role in the HBO series. But who exactly will the veteran actor play? Will he portray another disposable character like Ian McShane's Brother Ray or Richard E. Grant's Izembaro?
Jim Broadbent Officially Joining 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7! Will He Play Marwyn?
The news about Jim Broadbent's casting was well received. After all, fans are already hoping to see Marwyn the Mage in "Game of Thrones" Season 7. The "Cloud Atlas" star seems like an excellent choice for the character, who happens to be an archmaester of the Citadel. This could mean that Samwell Tarly will have a bigger role in the next season.
Marwyn the Mastiff's appearance in "Game of Thrones" Season 7 could mean that the show will delve into the history of the White Walkers as well as dragons. Unfortunately, some fans are still a little unsure that Jim Broadbent will play a major character in the series (via io9). After all, the show has a history of using character actors to play disposable characters who get unceremoniously killed off right away.
Is Jim Broadbent Playing A Disposable Character Like Brother Ray Or Izembaro?
The previous season of "Game of Thrones" had two excellent actors playing unfortunate disposable characters. Ian McShane appeared in the Season 6 episode "The Broken Man", where his Brother Ray put the freshly-resurrected Hound on his place. Unfortunately, the septon was killed off in the same episode.
Richard E. Grant appeared in at least two episodes, but his character was left in the background as Essie Davis dominated the small screen. Because of these two characters, fans are beginning to fear that Jim Broadbent's subtle talent will be relegated to a small supporting role in "Game of Thrones" Season 7.
Do you think Jim Broadbent will play Marwyn in "Game of Thrones" Season 7 or will he portray a minor character? Let us know in the comments?
