IFA 2016 is underway and Samsung Gear S3 has already been confirmed. The company introduced the successor to Samsung Gear S2. The new watch has a long-lasting battery, LTE, GPS and Gorilla Glass, designed specifically for watches. It also comes with a leather strap.
Some critics have found the watch to be on the bulkier side but it's also great in so many ways. Earlier rumors revealed that Samsung would in fact reveal three watches in the IFA 2016 event, Samsung Gear S3 Classic, Samsung Gear S3 Explorer and Samsung Gear S3 Frontier.
However, only two have been announced up to now. The Samsung Gear S3 Frontier, according to Tech Radar, is one of the most capable and active-focused wearable till date. It's almost identical to Gear S3 Classic specifications-wise.
Both Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic measure 46 x 49 x 12.9mm though Samsung Gear S3 Classic is 5g lighter than Gear S3 Frontier, which looks more masculine. Depending on usage, the two can last up to three to four days. They also come with a boosted 768MB of RAM and 4GB storage capacity.
While both are IP68 waterproof, the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier fits the MIL-STD 810G spec and has optional LTE. Both watches come with Samsung Pay installed have 1.3-inch Gorilla Glass SR+-protected AMOLED displays, rotating bezel and 22mm straps.
Other features of Samsung Gear S3 include Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, MST, NFC, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and GLONASS. It has an array of sensors including gyro, accelerometer, HRM, barometer and ambient light. The 380mAh battery charges wirelessly.
According to GSMArena, the Korean tech giant has confirmed that both its variants Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Samsung Gear S3 Frontier will be priced at €399 (around $445) in Europe. There is still no information as to when the two smartwatches would be made available although the two will be launched in the UK in October.
