Two months after "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 concluded, fans are still hoping that they are about to see Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) on the small screen once again. However, Showtime programming President Gary Levine strongly insisted at the TCA press tour that the horror drama television series already faced its end.
'Penny Dreadful' Season 4 Worthless?
Gary Levine explained that it was writer John Logan's idea to put an end to Vanessa Ives' life in "Penny Dreadful" Season 3. For them, the show already made enough moves to entice its viewers. Hence, they did a more audacious move by putting a "The End" phrase in the last season's finale without announcing it.
However, Showtime CEO David Nevins, on the other hand, tried to convince John Logan to extend the TV series' story with "Penny Dreadful" Season 4. "I think [Logan] always envisioned a three-season arc for her and that character," he said, as per Digital Spy. As he tried to analyze the continuation of "Penny Dreadful" Season 4, he realized that the character of Vanessa Ives and John Logan perfectly worked together.
With the absence of any one from the two, the show will be worthless. "So then it became a question for us: Is there a life for the series beyond both Vanessa Ives and John Logan's writing?" he questioned. For them, a coming of "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 won't be liked the original one, so they decided to end it.
The End Of 'Penny Dreadful'
To recall, "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 ended when John Clare (Rory Kinnear) was reciting a poem while standing beside the newly dug grave of Vanessa Ives. GameNGuide reported that as the lead character died, fans were surprised to see the words "The End" flashed on their TV screens. Some wonder if this will be the show's end or only for the part of the 36-year-old star.
But, as everyone knows that "Penny Dreadful" will never be the same without Vanessa Ives, some are still hoping that she will be brought back to life. "Penny Dreadful" had resurrected some of its characters, but this time, it is indeed the end of Vanessa, the entire cast and the show.
