Tom Brady threw for two early touchdowns, both set up by Mark Sanchez turnovers, as the New England Patriots routed the Jets and maintained sole possession of first place in the AFC East by beating the New York 42-17 on NFL Network's "Thursday Night Football."
The Jets were outgained 486-240 yards, had only 45 rushing yards, went 3-for-13 on third downs and turned the ball over five times. Sanchez went 17 of 35 for 167 yards with one touchdown, three interceptions and a fumble.
Brady was nearly perfect throwing for 347 yards with four touchdown passes. Aaron Hernandez has 12 receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns, while Wes Welker added 78 yards on five catches for the Patriots.
The closest New York got was within a score of 24-10 early in the third quarter, but the Patriots continued to increase their lead with big plays by their special teams and defensive units.
Julius Edelman returned a punt 65-yards for a touchdown and Devin McCourty returned an interception to New York's goal line that set up a one-yard touchdown run by running back Stevan Ridley to start the third quarter and give New England a 28-10 lead.
The Jets couldn't get anything going and Brady continued to light New York's defense up. He lead the Patriots on a fast paced and efficient drive that went for 80 yards on nine plays and ended in another touchdown for New England.
Sanchez fumbled the ball on the very next Jets possession and New England took control of the ball and scored another touchdown to start the fourth quarter that gave the Patriots a 42-10 lead.
The Jets make on last effort to score as Sanchez lead New York down the field on a 13-play, 76-yard drive that ended in a Shone Greene touchdown. Greene rushed for 69-yards on 18 carries.
